More than 800 homes were sold throughout 2005 to homebuyers. Since Rancho Sahuarita opened in July 2001, almost 3,000 homes have been purchased and more than 8,000 people now call Rancho Sahuarita home.
“The value of living in this community is more than just affordable homes, beautiful neighborhoods and recreational amenities; it is the sense of community that really convinces families that Rancho Sahuarita is the perfect place to live", says Bob Sharpe, Managing Partner of Rancho Sahuarita.
Due to its 3,000 acre comprehensive master plan, Rancho Sahuarita-Arizona has developed into a community unique to Southern Arizona. Offering the perfect balance of solitude and activity, Rancho Sahuarita provides residents with a convenient lifestyle and an abundance of amenities that are masterfully weaved throughout the community.
Rancho Sahuarita features a 15-acre lake park, miles of paved walking and running trails, neighborhood parks and Club Rancho Sahuarita with the largest private water park in Southern Arizona. With 11 new neighborhoods and more to come, a variety of quality builders and single-family homes priced from the high-100s to the high-600s, Rancho Sahuarita continues to add to the exceptional quality of life of its residents.
Over the next 12 months, Rancho Sahuarita will be expanding its already impressive list of community and recreational amenities. A 5,000 square feet Kids Club is under construction as we speak north of Club Rancho Sahuarita and will become the ideal place for kids to spend time while serving to host resident parties and children celebrations.
Adjacent to the Kids Club will be an electric train for riding on weekends and a nine-hole miniature golf course. Four unique interactive park elements will run along the length of Rancho Sahuarita Boulevard, and will provide educational and discovery experiences for children.
The opening of the Cielo Park will create an amenity for the entire family to enjoy, with its gazebo, tot lot, picnic benches, bicycle racetrack and multi-purpose turf areas. A "Bark Park", located within the Cielo Park, will feature fenced, turf dog-run areas for dogs to run free and a canine fountain for cooling down on those warm Rancho Sahuarita days. Two satellite recreation centers will provide additional recreational outlets for activities and gatherings.
As Rancho Sahuarita grows, we can expect Rancho Sahuarita to continue to garner national attention and continue to maintain its status as one of the Best-Selling Master Planned Communities in the country.
Sahuarita-Arizona History
A little Sahuarita History.
"In 1879 James Kilroy Brown established the Sahuarita Ranch
south of Tucson, naming it because there were so many saguaro cactus in the vicinity. Sahuarita Butte and Wash also have many giant cacti."
It was mapped that year as Saurita. Pedro Aguirre used the ranch headquarters as a stage station on
the route between Tucson, Arivaca, and Quijotoa.
The developing community was called Sahuarita, after the ranch. Brown gave the railroad the right of way with the provision that the railroad station be named Sahuarita, but the name came
through as Saurita on an 1884 railroad map.
When Geronimo was active in the region, Brown moved his family to Olive Camp where he was associated with they Olive Mining Company. He sold his ranch in 1886 and the area fell into a decline, with the post office being discontinued. Hinton referred to this place as Columbus for reasons unknown.
As activities gradually increased and a community re-developed here, the post office was re-established.
The community was named for a giant cactus.
